THE GLASSES WE PROCESS
TYPES OF PROCESSED GLASS WE MAKE
Tempered (Toughened) Glass - Thermally treated glass
This glass is 5 times stronger than annealed glass and can withstand temperatures up to 240 degrees Celsius. It is difficult to breakand breaks into small, harmless fragments when broken. However, once broken, the entire glass has to be replaced. No cutting or grinding can be done after the tempering process.
Heat Strengthened Glass - Similar to tempered glass but not safety glass. This glass is 3 times stronger than annealed glass and can withstand temperatures up to 130 degrees Celsius. It cannot be called safety glass as it breaks into sharp edges and may cause fatal injuries
Heat Soaked Glass - The complete value to toughened glass. This process eliminates spontaneous breakage of tempered glass due to the presence of nitrogen sulphide during the float glass manufacturing process. It reduces the risk of spontaneous breakage by up to 99.9% The process is time consuming as the tempered glass needs to be heat soaked in the machine for over 5-6 hours.
Laminated Glass - Two layers or more of glass with a layer of Polyvinyl butyl (PVB) or Sentry in between them. This glass does not shatter like ordinary glass. It absorbs impact and resists penetration while remaining intact even after being broken. Laminated glass is an excellent noise insulator. It screens out 99% of sun’s damaging rays making it a good heat insulator as well. It confines fire longer, giving more time for evacuation and control of fire. However, once broken, the entire glass has to be replaced.
Insulated (Double Glazed) Glass Unit - Pre-fabricated unit with 2 or more panes of glass separated by an air gap (sometimes filled with gases for additional strength) and edges sealed together with aluminium spacers and sealant. This glass saves on heating and cooling costs by reducing air to air heat transfer. It significantly reduces the exterior noise pollution while marginally increasing the overall unit’s strength against wind load pressure. Once broken, the entire glass has to be replaced. Improper fabrication of these DGU / IGU panels might lead to internal water condensation and deglazing of the units.
Ceramic Printed Glass – Printed using a silk screen with glass enamel before it is tempered or heat strengthened, this glass comes with a permanent coating that cannot be removed by cleaning or scrubbing. A large range of dots, squares, checks, and patterns available give many design combinations to achieve the desired effect. This glass provides complete privacy and is toughened by default while being available in several colours options. However, it does not allow for much natural light to enter into the living spaces and provides no visibility from either the inside or outside.
